About Oakdene Country House

Set in mature gardens with wildlife ponds, Oakdene offers spectacular views of the surrounding countryside. The Yorkshire Dales and Lake District are right on your doorstep. Two 7-person hot tubs let you soak while taking in those views. Fancy a walk? The famous Wainwright's Howgills are nearby. Or explore Cautley Spout and Dentdale for some proper Yorkshire air.

The accommodation is split between the main house and adjoining annexe. Main house bedrooms include Baughfell with a super king bed and freestanding bath, Winder with a sofa bed for kids and four other luxury rooms. The annexe features five additional bedrooms including Longstone Fell, a family room with four single beds.

What can I say about Sally and Chris, they absolutely saved our long weekend away with our family after another property cancelled our visit with 24 hours notice with no explanation. So fist thing they knew about our predicament was on the day we were due to travel, Chris got my number and called me to let me know that we had no need to worry and they would have their property cleaned and ready for us that day. They went all out to clean, change bedding etc and had it ready for us that afternoon. Their house was amazing and knocked spots off the one that let us down. The facilities in the house were fantastic, with a snooker taker, hot tub and lots more to do. We were so impressed that we plan to revisit for special occasions in the near future. The area and views are amazing and we cant wait to return. Thank you very much Sally and Chris for saving our special family time for us and we will see you again.

We had a fantastic stay at Oakdene Country House and would happily recommend it to anyone looking for a break in the Yorkshire Dales. The house was a brilliant base for exploring Sedbergh and the surrounding area, with plenty to do nearby while still feeling peaceful and tucked away. It worked really well for a family stay, with lots of space to relax and spend time together. The property itself was comfortable, well presented and had everything we needed for our few days away. We particularly enjoyed being able to come back after a day exploring and properly relax together. Sedbergh is a lovely part of the country and Oakdene made a great base for experiencing it. We had a really enjoyable stay and would definitely consider returning.

Our group have an annual reunion, so we have experience of holida lets. Oakdene was right up there as one of the best. Chris greeted the first guest to welcome him and talk through all issues to help us settle in. The property is beautiful and in a wonderful setting, with views to match. Despite a lot of rain during our stay it is in Cumbria! , there is plenty to do nearby, and plenty of room to stay in if necessary. The kitchen is very well appointed for 20 guests, up to 23. We had no problems with the house, but Chris and Sally were very quick to respond to any questions. Excellent holiday.

Each and every one of our guests was blown away with the house and surroundings. The finish is spectacular and everything you could want from a high end holiday home. Stayed at Oakdene for 3 nights for my daughters bridal shower and had the best weekend. We were greeted by Chris who ran through everything you needed to know about the house. The house was perfect, a beautiful house in fabulous surroundings. All the rooms were comfortable and the facilities second to none. The kitchen was perfect for eating together, hosting a cocktail making party and silent disco. We had great weather and made use of the outside seating area. Oakdene Country House delivered an exceptional experience from start to finish. From the moment we checked in to the day we left, everything ran seamlessly. Chris provided a thorough and thoughtful handover, taking the time to walk us through all the appliances and features of the house, which made settling in effortless. In the leadup to our stay, communication was prompt and incredibly helpfulespecially as we were organising both a 40th and a 70th birthday celebration, along with coordinating external suppliers. That level of support made a big difference and took a lot of stress out of the planning. As others have mentioned, the house itself is truly stunning. If anything, it exceeds expectationsthe reality is even better than the photos. Its a fantastic setting for a special occasion, offering both comfort and a real sense of occasion. This is the 4th time we have stayed at Oakdene, all 23 ladies, and we have booked for next year too. The house is absolutely amazing, and we all love staying. From the decor, the facilities, the cleanliness right through to the hot tubs, everything is very well thought out, and amazing quality too. We spend our long weekend in absolute luxury, it really is a treat to stay here. The bedrooms are all high quality, always immaculate and so cosy. We have a chef come in and cook for us on the Saturday nights and he confirms its a very good kitchen 3 ovens, 2 large fridges, separate freezer and 2 large hobs, everything is covered! I cannot recommend staying here enough, and I hope to continue staying for many years to come.

Its pretty rare when the photos just dont do a place justice, the home was even more amazing and exceeded our expectations. Large, warm and inviting, Chris and Sally prepared the place so well, our large group of family and friends had the best Christmas. We certainly look forward to a return visit, cant recommend the place more highly.

We had a perfect stay at Oakdene and Chris was really great host! There were 18 of us and 2 children and there was plenty of space. All the bedrooms and bathrooms were lovely and comfortable. Absolutely fantastic place! The house was full of character, impeccably kept presented and set up perfectly to host a large group. Chris the host was fantastic, was always on call to discuss anything in advance and the personal handover when we arrived was a great touch. Felt an instant attachment to the place and will certainly be going back there in the future!
Oakdene was an incredible property, the views from the hot tubs were fantastic and it provided a superb base for 19 of us to celebrate my brothers 50th birthday. The kitchen set up and facilities for cooking are great, extremely comfy beds and bedding. We had such a good time and would love to return. The walk by the river into Sedbergh is a really good walk with children, we past lots of farm animals in the fields, goats, donkeys, the children loved this! The men loved the snooker room. My dad and brothers are keen players, so the only small issue was only having one cue to play with, bring your own if you have one, we will do this next time. You will also need to bring your own speaker for playing music and towels for the hot tub.

Really enjoyed our stay at Oakdene Country House. We were a large group of 22 people 13 adults and 9 children and the rooms and accommodation were perfect. Every room had an ensuite, the kitchen dinning area was huge and enough space for us all and we loved the 2 hot tubs. The only small thing is the lack of large garden to the rear of the property that the kids could have played in. There is plenty of outdoor space though, just not necessarily to the rear.

On arrival at Oakdene Country House we were greeted by Chris. He was welcoming and very friendly. We entered the house and wow, how beautiful. Every room was stunning, furnished and finished to a high quality. The owners had thought of everything that you could possibly need to make your stay in the house perfect. The hot tubs and games room were the icing on the cake. The beds were of superb quality and the most comfortable mattresses throughout. We have just returned from an absolutely fantastic stay at Oakdene Country House. What an outstanding property, everything was perfect and the location was stunning. We were a party of 17 adults, 4 children and a baby. The house is decorated and equipped to a very high standard. We have stayed in many properties all over the world but Oakdene is by far the best. The owners Chris and Sally had decorated the house for Christmas and it looked perfect. Having 3 ovens, 2 dishwashers, 2 large food fridges and 2 wine fridges certainly accommodated our large party. There was no dispute about bedrooms due to them all being equally as nice, with lovely en suite bathrooms. The decor throughout was neutral and the furnishings of a high standard and very tasteful.The children entertained themselves in the cinema room, which was great and they enjoyed the hot tubs. The sweeping staircase was a perfect backdrop to my partners big birthday celebration. We walked into Sedbergh by the river on quite a few occasions, which was lovely. I cannot rate this property highly enough A big thank you to Chris and Sally for making our stay so memorable.
This is a lovely house in a beautiful setting with some great pubs not far away. We were a party of 21 and used most of the facilities and would recommend it strongly. The house is beautifully decorated to a high spec. The bedrooms have good quality bedlinen and towels and everywhere was clean and warm. Almost all of the bedrooms are ensuite with a stunning annexe bathroom. We had some mobility issues within our group which were not an issue here and the owners were very helpful with any queries. The kitchen has full facilities although I might request serving spoons and a small pan on rebooking which I plan to do.
We have stayed at many holiday cottages and I can honestly say that Oakdene has been one of, if not the best weve ever been to. The setting, the decor, the attention to detail, the facilities, the views, none of it can be faulted. This is honestly an amazing place, its even more luxurious than in the photos and its located in a relatively unvisited but beautiful part of the Yorkshire dales. Chris is an excellent host who not only gave us lots of useful tips about the area but also arranged a brilliant clay pigeon shoot! Cant wait to visit again!

Simply the loveliest of holiday accommodation. We were a family of eleven adults & seven children aged eight weeks to 70 & never felt cramped as so much space . Top notch furnishings & figments , spotlessly clean throughout . Amazing views from almost every room . We enjoyed the hot tubs , cinema room & games room but it was also so nice for adults to have the peace & quiet occasionally of the beautiful morning room . The place is all even more gorgeous than the photos & we all loved it . Sedbergh is a super village , we enjoyed county cricket , street fair , fete & pub lunches there . There is a large Spar for essentials in Sedbergh . The property is peaceful as set far back from the road . It is the perfect location for exploring Cumbria & the Yorkshire Dales . We would have no hesitation in recommending Oakdene & shall hope to all return there . You will not be disappointed, its perfect . Thank you Chris & Sally very much .
The property was superb. Everything was just as you would want it to be in a house for a large gathering. The interior feel of the house is modern and elegant. The kitchen is fully equipped and all bedrooms are comfortable with well designed ensuite facilities. WiFi is fast and stable, even with multiple users connected. Good professional approach to the whole booking by the owner.

This is an INCREDIBLE house for a large family or friend gathering. Unbelievably well equipped with high end furnishings. Huge and spacious, spotlessly clean. We would absolutely return!
