About Oakdene Country House

Oakdene Country House is a massive luxury country lodge in Sedbergh, Cumbria, sitting at the edge of two national parks. This grand property sleeps 23 guests across 11 stylish bedrooms. Set in mature gardens with wildlife ponds, Oakdene offers spectacular views of the surrounding countryside. The Yorkshire Dales and Lake District are right on your doorstep. Two 7-person hot tubs let you soak while taking in those views. Fancy a walk? The famous Wainwright's Howgills are nearby. Or explore Cautley Spout and Dentdale for some proper Yorkshire air.

The accommodation is split between the main house and adjoining annexe. Main house bedrooms include Baughfell with a super king bed and freestanding bath, Winder with a sofa bed for kids and four other luxury rooms. The annexe features five additional bedrooms including Longstone Fell, a family room with four single beds.

Nearby attractions include White Scar Caves (20 miles, 35 minutes), Ingleton Waterfalls Walk (18 miles, 30 minutes), Wensleydale Creamery (16 miles, 25 minutes) and Kendal Castle (11 miles, 20 minutes). Sedbergh town is just a short walk away with its bookshops and local pubs.

Really enjoyed our stay at Oakdene Country House. We were a large group of 22 people 13 adults and 9 children and the rooms and accommodation were perfect. Every room had an ensuite, the kitchen dinning area was huge and enough space for us all and we loved the 2 hot tubs. The only small thing is the lack of large garden to the rear of the property that the kids could have played in. There is plenty of outdoor space though, just not necessarily to the rear.

On arrival at Oakdene Country House we were greeted by Chris. He was welcoming and very friendly. We entered the house and wow, how beautiful. Every room was stunning, furnished and finished to a high quality. The owners had thought of everything that you could possibly need to make your stay in the house perfect. The hot tubs and games room were the icing on the cake. The beds were of superb quality and the most comfortable mattresses throughout. Thank you so much for a fabulous 3 nights stay to celebrate my 60th birthday. Hope to see you again in the future.

The property is amazing, all the bedrooms are big with their own bathrooms, kitchen is well equipped for large groups, outdoor space is beautiful. The owners were very welcoming. We have just returned from an absolutely fantastic stay at Oakdene Country House. What an outstanding property, everything was perfect and the location was stunning. We were a party of 17 adults, 4 children and a baby. The house is decorated and equipped to a very high standard. We have stayed in many properties all over the world but Oakdene is by far the best. The owners Chris and Sally had decorated the house for Christmas and it looked perfect. Having 3 ovens, 2 dishwashers, 2 large food fridges and 2 wine fridges certainly accommodated our large party. There was no dispute about bedrooms due to them all being equally as nice, with lovely en suite bathrooms. The decor throughout was neutral and the furnishings of a high standard and very tasteful.The children entertained themselves in the cinema room, which was great and they enjoyed the hot tubs. The sweeping staircase was a perfect backdrop to my partners big birthday celebration. We walked into Sedbergh by the river on quite a few occasions, which was lovely. I cannot rate this property highly enough A big thank you to Chris and Sally for making our stay so memorable.

This was an amazing property. It was kitted out with everything you needed and more! Chris was super helpful and welcoming. Every room was beautiful and clean. The location was great, short walk into town. The views were amazing, especially from the hot tubs!
This is a lovely house in a beautiful setting with some great pubs not far away. We were a party of 21 and used most of the facilities and would recommend it strongly. The house is beautifully decorated to a high spec. The bedrooms have good quality bedlinen and towels and everywhere was clean and warm. Almost all of the bedrooms are ensuite with a stunning annexe bathroom. We had some mobility issues within our group which were not an issue here and the owners were very helpful with any queries. The kitchen has full facilities although I might request serving spoons and a small pan on rebooking which I plan to do.
We have stayed at many holiday cottages and I can honestly say that Oakdene has been one of, if not the best weve ever been to. The setting, the decor, the attention to detail, the facilities, the views, none of it can be faulted. This is honestly an amazing place, its even more luxurious than in the photos and its located in a relatively unvisited but beautiful part of the Yorkshire dales. Chris is an excellent host who not only gave us lots of useful tips about the area but also arranged a brilliant clay pigeon shoot! Cant wait to visit again!

Simply the loveliest of holiday accommodation. We were a family of eleven adults & seven children aged eight weeks to 70 & never felt cramped as so much space . Top notch furnishings & figments , spotlessly clean throughout . Amazing views from almost every room . We enjoyed the hot tubs , cinema room & games room but it was also so nice for adults to have the peace & quiet occasionally of the beautiful morning room . The place is all even more gorgeous than the photos & we all loved it . Sedbergh is a super village , we enjoyed county cricket , street fair , fete & pub lunches there . There is a large Spar for essentials in Sedbergh . The property is peaceful as set far back from the road . It is the perfect location for exploring Cumbria & the Yorkshire Dales . We would have no hesitation in recommending Oakdene & shall hope to all return there . You will not be disappointed, its perfect . Thank you Chris & Sally very much .
The property was superb. Everything was just as you would want it to be in a house for a large gathering. The interior feel of the house is modern and elegant. The kitchen is fully equipped and all bedrooms are comfortable with well designed ensuite facilities. WiFi is fast and stable, even with multiple users connected. Good professional approach to the whole booking by the owner.

We booked this property for a family break. We had 3 generations stay and the cottage was loved by all. There was ample space for all our little groups to entertain themselves and also to come together. The place was exceptionally clean when we arrived and the facilities were brilliant. Chris greeted us when we arrived and he went above and beyond. We had ordered groceries to the house for when we arrived, but unfortunately we were caught up in traffic. He received the delivery and even packed everything away for us, without us having to ask! He showed us around the cottage and was available for any issues we had during our stay. We could not recommend him as a host or the cottage as a fantastic place to stay. We would love to stay here again.

Absolutely perfect weekend! We stayed at Oakdene for my 40th birthday celebrations! The whole family came! The house was ideal and even better than the photos if thats possible! Ages ranged from 3 months to 60 years old and everyone loved it! The perfect spot for a group get together! We are hoping to make it an annual trip
We had another great holiday at Oakdene Country House. I would definitely recommend the house as a holiday destination for a large group. It is clean, comfortable, very well equipped and everything works. The games room was a great hit with the children and the two lounges offered welcoming space for the adults. Beds too were really comfortable. A lovely area to stay in and not as busy as the Lakes. An ideal holiday destination.

Group of 21 adults for a 60th birthday celebration week. All the rooms were spacious and the attention to detail in the dcor and comfort was outstanding. Kitchen was well equipped with everything you could want. The outdoor hot tubs now with cover were well received by all. The house itself was lovely with plenty of spaces you could hide away and quietly read a book if required. All the bedrooms were large with ensuite apart from annex bedroom of 4 that boasted a HUGE bathroom. Amazing views from all windows overlooking the fields and countryside. Bonus points for lambing ewes right outside. Fairfield Mill right on doorstep which is well worth a visit. Sedbergh Golf Course was well received by our lady golfers. Don't forget your walking shoes if you decide to go for a walk into the village some parts can be muddy. Outstanding trip and loads to do in nearby surrounds. Will definitely recommend and would love to return.
A group of friends stayed here on the 15th march 2024 ,to celebrate our friends 60th birthday Amazing House, better than any i've stayed in. Photos do not do it justice although they are fabulous . Everything you would need is at hand. The house was spotless. There was no fight for the best bedroom as all of them were fabulous. Absolutely fantastic stay at Oakdene country house! The views are nothing short of amazing, herds of sheep just metres from your window in the surrounding fields. The house itself is out of this world, the space, facilities And decor is unmatched. We were A party of 18 adults and 6 children and it was more than we could have imagined. The day after coming home we booked up again for next year! Chris was always thorough in making sure we knew he was on hand for any issues or questions, and he certainly was! I dont think we will find anywhere that matches this property and cant wait to be back!

Oakdene's setting in the countryside, the quietness and solitude apart from some sheep, was completely what we were looking for though we could, and did, walk into Sedbergh a few times. Our group of 17 had a fantastic stay at Oakdene and would thoroughly recommend to other large groups looking to hire a holiday home. Chris the owner had been very helpful and accommodating with our questions and requests prior to arrival and he was also there to meet us on check in to give us a tour and show us how the appliances worked. All 11 bedrooms were very comfortable and well appointed to a very high standard and the bathrooms were all very modern with great showers. The kitchen was fantastic plenty of oven and hob space and very well equipped to be able to cook for such a large group. There was also ample fridge and freezer space. The kitchen had been well designed and thought out. Our group also enjoyed having the two hot tubs and had lots of fun in the games room. The snooker table was a great bonus. We had a minor problem with one hot tub and Chris was available to come over and resolve it very quickly. Overall this was a fantastic home for our group we had a lovely week and would love to return in the future. We wouldnt hesitate to recommend this holiday home thanks Chris for a great week!

We stayed at oakdene for my and my husbands 20th anniversary in august 2021 with all the family we highly recommend this place 'as the owners were very accommodating and helpful and couldn't do enough for us ' it is a very modern and clean large house with breathtaking views from every window 'the facilities were amazing ' we spent many nights in the hot tubs and kids all enjoyed the snooker room which was so big 'the beds were so comfortable and spacious ' we all had the best nights sleep ' it was very handy having the 3 ovens as we catered for large amount of people 'there was more than enough utensils ' nothing was unmissed 'they had thought of everything 'this house was in the ideal location for great walks and trips to the lake district 'everyone in our group really enjoyed the stay and commented on how beautiful it was and would highly recommend this place 'as you will not be disappointed and we definitely love to go back thanks cilla and mark
The house is immaculate and has been beautifully decorated. The beds were all extremely comfortable and the house is full of lots of thoughtful touches such as blankets in the lounges. Every window has an amazing view out of it and the house is next door to the amazing Far Fields Mill. Cant recommend the property highly enough our group of 18 friends had a wonderful stay and will definitely be back!

Well what can I say, the house is absolutely amazing! Every little detail, the decor, the way the rooms are set out, the equipment and crockerycutlery in the kitchen, the bedrooms, the lighting, everything has been so well thought out. It is just gorgeous. We stayed for 3 nights, 23 ladies, and we had a truly wonderful time! We had a personal chef, he had no issues with the kitchen, and this was just brilliant! The hot tubs are massive, the games room downstairs is just lovely and Chris and Sally the owners goes above and beyond to make sure your stay is the best. Every little detail is covered! We all loved every minute and we have booked for next year. I would absolutely recommend staying in this house!
The house was wonderful, every detail had been thought of and Chris & Sally were on hand throughout our stay. We really appreciated all the little touches. The kitchen has all appliances, the hot tubs were clean and well looked after, bedrooms comfortable and the location itself is beautiful. We had a lovely Christmas and hope to return to Oakdene one day. Thanks so much! The only minor complaint we had is nothing to do with the house or hosts, it's that Sykes themselves are a really difficult company to get a hold of on the phone! We had numerous queries before our stay and couldn't get in touch via an avenues which we found really frustrating. Again, nothing to do with ChrisSallythe house itself, just feedback about Sykes as a company.
We stayed in the house for my husbands 60th as a surprise with all our friends. We all had such a brilliant weekend and everyone commented on how lovely the house was. Communication with the owner was brilliant and we would all love to return in the future. Thank you. Clare and friends xx
