The Gardener's Bothy, Hutton

This place was absolutely amazing

We had a wonderful stay at the Gardener's Bothy. Wonderful old building but modernised and decorated to very high standard spotlessly clean inside. We and in particular our terrier! loved the enclosed garden and the surrounds. We had rather a special hot tub evening on our last night and even got up close with a few red squirrels. Fully recommend as a place to stay, we'd love to come back,

This is a gem the location is really peaceful, facilities spot on, and a real bonus being able to walk to the Horse & Farrier. We loved seeing the red squirrel at the feeder every morning and a visiting hare in the garden.

Beautifully situated cottage with large garden surrounded by fields, country lanes and wildlife to watch but convenient for Ullswater and many other attractions. Comfortable and spacious cottage. We will visit the Hutton John estate again and hope for a less wet and windy week. Thank you Kate for your information and welcome box.

We had a wonderful week at Gardener's Bothy. The cottage is beautifully decorated and comfortable, in a quiet setting surrounded by nature. We had an issue during our stay which was addressed within 15minutes. Fantastic experience. Thank you for a wonderful stay.

I chose The Gardener's Bothy from it's incredible pictures and the aptness of the name, being a gardener myself. The place is stunning, beautiful setting and scenery, great facilities, so much storage that it's perfect for even the best overpackers, it really is a perfect home away from home. The team were fabulous at answering any questions we had before arriving and keep it all in brilliant condition. If you are looking for a good base to go out exploring the lakes, or even keep yourself dry and warm inside, then this is a spot to check out.

Well,,if you ever want a clean and peaceful place to stay then this is it. .From first entering the property to leaving a week later,the whole experience was wonderful. There's an abundant of wildlife, including the red squirrels, which comes every morning..Plenty walks, freedom to access the estates fields. The list goes on..We didn't want to leave..A true credit to the owners Kate and the whole family, they are so warm and welcoming, we can't wait to return..whatever the weather, give the gardeners bothy a try..SIMPLY THE BEST....Gary,Diane & Badger staffy...Halifax.

What a beautiful, well equipt cottage in a wonderful countryside location. It has everything you want from a well equipt kictchen, comfy lounge, big tv, wifi, two large bathrooms with powerful showers, even bathrobes... The bedroom is again large, with enough storage space for a large family, yet alone just 2 of you, a comfy bed. Outside theres extensive gardens, nice furniture, a wood fired large Hot Tub and lots of local wildlife red Squirrels, Woodpeckers and other birds etc feeding off the bird table and along with a nice welcome pack, starter pack for the hot Tub and more supplies readily available we both had a wonderful time and enjoyed celebrating out 40th wedding anniversarry there and we'd certainly look to come back. Thanks to Kate and team for also helping sort some things out and providing additional info before we arrived. Some Hints Light the hot tub early.. it takes at least 23 hrs to fully warm up but then maintains the heat for another day too..Use the drain tapcold water hose to adjust the temp The Horse and Farier pub in Dacre is well worth it for a meal but book and parkings fun but it is walkable.. Nice Farm ShopCafe about a mile towards Keswick on the A66 Also nice Cumbrian Food centre 23 miles the other way down the A66 on the ouskirts of Penrith worth a visit too. only 1 dislike.. The estate is a working farm so expect local bug life... so Fly spay is a useful thing to have....

We had an amazing stay in the gardeners bothy. On arrival we could smell the freshness of the bed linen & towels. The bothy is perfectly located for touring the lakes and we loved having the garden for the dog to run around in. The hot tub was an added bonus.

The Gardener's Bothy was an absolute joy to have as a base during our stay in Cumbria. Every detail had been thought through to maximise comfort and ease, from the incredibly comfortable bed to the sharp knives a rare thing in our experience! The property is embraced by woodland and is wonderfully peaceful and quiet. Kate and her team were available and helpful, and we are grateful for the care they clearly take to make visitors' stays special.

The Gardener's Bothy is a lovely, quirky cottage in a beautiful setting. It's an old building with a modern extension, resulting in a lovely large sitting room with panorama windows and a large bedroom upstairs with more than sufficient closet space. Bedroom and two bathrooms were spotless clean, the older part of the house shows some wear and tear. Kitchen has all the appliances you need but that doesn't really make it a good workable kitchen, the layout could use an update. The enclosed garden is shared with a modern cottage. Birds, squirrels and all kinds of other creatures visit the garden in abundance which makes it a lovely retreat.

I rate the accuracy of listing low, because Sykes only rate this as a 3star property! It is absolutely outstanding! What a great place! We have stayed with Sykes a few times now and never been disappointed. However, this property really was above and beyond anywhere we have stayed before. Would love to go back. The space is huge and very well designed. Downstairs and upstairs wet rooms. The enclosed garden is the size of a small park, which our dog absolutely loved. The kitchen had all the equipment you could want except perhaps an air fryer. There were so many seats in the place you didn't know where to sit! It's very close to penrith for shopping. Fully recommended.

An amazing property in a beautiful situation . We could find no fault and were so impressed we have booked a return visit in June . The owners were exceptionally friendly and helpful . They provided a tasty and thoughtful Welcome Pack and many personal touches in and around the property. The garden is lovely and the red squirrels feed outside the kitchen window . We loved everything about Gardeners Bothy . Comfortable bed, efficient showers, lots of storage and light and airy rooms with comfy sofas. To sum up, perfection.

AMAZING! The gardeners bothy was superb from start to finish, the surroundings are beautiful and tranquil with stunning wildlife literally on your door step. The cottage caters for everything, even the bird and red squirrels feeder were continuously topped up and you can sit meters away watching them all feed. The cottage is super warm and cozy and the fire just adds to the coziness!! The shared walled garden is great and still offers privacy and a look at the country over the gate where we were regularly greeted by the sheep grazing. There was a lovely welcome pack on arrival with local produce and the cottage is situated perfectly in the Eastside of the lakes and although in the sticks not far from amenities in either pooley bridge, Penrith or Keswick there are also alot of local pubs dog friendly within walking distance, honestly couldn't pick a better place and will definitely want to go back here when we return, thank you to Kate Alan and the Team.

Beautiful cosy cottage, beautiful setting. So peaceful. Loved seeing the red squirrels and the birds. Excellent location for exploring the Northern lakes and visiting family in the Scottish Borders. Cottage was very well presented. So clean and provided everything we needed during our stay. The welcome pack was much appreciated. We will definitely return! Thank you.

This is a lovely house. The bedroom is very large with plenty of wardrobes and drawers and the bed very comfortable. Really nice hot showers and quality fittings through out. The kitchen is well stocked with everything you need. Also there is wifi and nice tv set up. Outside a huge shared garden which the dog loved. The only disappointment for me was the hot tub which seemed like too much effort to light mind you it was snowing while we were there. A heated hot tub with jets would have make it perfect for us

The Gardener's Bothy it's a little heaven on earth very cosy place to relax from the stress of the city The jacuzzi is the prime gem very relaxing after a day of hiking. And for sure we are coming. Thank you for everything kate

Beautiful property in a perfect setting and is an ideal base for the areas we wanted to visit. The cottage had everything we needed and more. It was lovely to watch the wildlife from the lounge. The host and family were available when we needed, they are genuinely lovely people. Looking forward to returning next year.

Excellent cottage on a lovely estate with good access to Penrith, Keswick and the north Lakes area.

Absolutely fantastic cottage, perfect for us, we were looking for rest and relaxation and we got that in great comfort, as did our dog. Leaving bird and squirrel food to restock the bird table was the icing on the cake. Perhaps a sheet or book to help identify some of the numerous birds would be a good addition? Other than a little less rain, it really was perfect.
